SCIENCE WEEK
UNIVERSITY SCIENCE AWARDS
On Thursday August 16, as part of Science Week, the PICSE
Science Investigation Awards were held at the Sunshine Coast University. There were categories for Years 6 & 7 in
the Junior Section and Years 10, 11 & 12 in the Senior Section. Brightwater State School was represented by
Year 6 student, Chloe, who presented her project, titled “Ice-Cream
Madness”.
Chloe investigated how the amount of salt added to ice-cream
affects its texture and time taken to set.
After designing her investigation, considering all of the variables,
testing her hypothesis and collecting her results, Chloe had to write a
scientific report and present it to judges at the university. Part of the judging process included an
interview to explain the investigation.
There were also many other students and adults who visited the
displays. Chloe kept their interest by
giving out samples of ice-cream!
This hard work, done in her own time, earned Chloe the
People’s Choice Award of $150 as well as the overall first place for Year 6
entries, another $150! Although feeling
a little nervous at the start of the evening, Chloe really enjoyed herself and
was a wonderful ambassador for our school.
Well done Chloe!!
