Brightwater State
School has established school community partnerships by running Parent Learning
Week Workshops each Term. In an effort
to improve communication and understanding about how mathematics is taught in
classrooms, four numeracy workshops have been run so far this year.
Workshops were
focused upon how to help parents understand the shift from teaching written
methods for calculating answers using algorithms, to building deep conceptual
understandings as the foundation for this knowledge and focusing upon
strengthening mental calculation abilities.
