Student leadership is essential for the positive,
productive and effective operation of any school. The student leader group is a
vital leadership team that enhances the profile of the school as well as giving
a voice to the student body.
The Student Leadership Team consists of students
from Year 6. Students can apply for any of the following positions.

2 School Captains (one boy, one girl)
·
2 School Vice Captains (one boy, one girl)
·
8 House Captains (2 for each House)
What does a Student Leader do?
Promotes all dimensions of our school by:
displaying exemplary behaviour at all times and
acting as a role model to all students
listening to the requests and ideas of fellow
students
chairing student council meetings
reporting progress to the Principal and/or staff
leading, supporting and motivating the student
leadership team so that they stay on track and complete their projects
acting as an ambassador for our school by receiving
special guests and representing our school at Community events
preparing and giving speeches at school and community
events.
Students who wish to run for School Captain/Vice
Captain position will participate in the following process:
Students complete a written application with
endorsement by a teacher and parents in October each year
A panel consisting of 3 staff members will
evaluate the written applications and select a shortlisted group to go
through to interview and speech round
Interviews - Shortlisted students will attend
a 10 min interview.
Speech - Candidates will present their
election speech on Assembly
Voting - Students from Yr. 3-5 and all staff
will vote.
Successful candidates will be announced at the
end of November each year.
Students
who wish to be considered for House Captain need to complete a written
application with endorsement by a teacher and parents. A panel consisting of 3
staff members will evaluate the written applications and select the 2 Captains
for each house. Successful candidates will be announced at the end of November.
Brightwater
Buddy Peer Mentor Program
An enthusiastic
group of year 6 students volunteer to participate in the Brightwater State
School Peer Mentor Program. The purpose of the program is to train students to
act as mentors in the playground during first break by helping students of all
ages play cooperatively and happily together. It also involved students
learning how to initiate conversations with students, help solve problems and
work with our students to follow our Stop Walk Talk and STAR values.
