Brightwater State School promotes access, participation and quality
educational outcomes for all students. Our special education services provide
and support programs for students in Prep to Year 6, who have significant
support needs arising from a disability. Provisions are made to support
students' individual needs within the school learning environments.
Students
who have an Intellectual Impairment, Speech Language Impairment and/or come
under the umbrella of Autism Spectrum Disorders and require significant
educational adjustments are eligible to access a Special Education Program
(SEP) at Brightwater State School. In consultation with parents, most
students will spend all, or nearly all, of their
school day in mainstream classes with some support from Special Education
Program (SEP) staff.
Students
with a Hearing Impairment, Physical Impairment and/or Vision Impairment have
access to the services of an Advisory Visiting Teacher in their relevant disability
area. Advisory Visiting Teachers assist teachers with the curriculum
adjustments and delivery of educational programs that target a student’s
learning needs.
Other
support professionals are also available to support students with disabilities.
These include Guidance Officers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and
Speech Language Pathologists who may help to assess a student’s educational
needs and assist teachers in developing programs.
At
Brightwater State School we adopt a team approach to ensure quality learning
outcomes. All staff work collaboratively
to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for all students.
